It happened. My sweet husband got rid of things! And it wasn’t my idea and I’m so proud of him.
This entire truckload of stuff was a giant pile in our garage. It was all loosely set aside for having a garage sale next summer or selling online.
But now it’s gone and there are no worries about a garage sale! I’m over the moon excited to not have to put in that effort next year! Instead, I have permission to just donate unwanted things around the house!
(Not that I needed permission, it just got to be so much stuff that I felt obligated to make money off of selling it in some way or another. If you’ve ever struggled with this feeling, you know what I mean.)
Truck It Out!
I had just assumed that it would feel better, after hoarding all this stuff all Fall and Winter, to have a garage sale! I hosted a garage sale after my first big home purge, in 2021, and it was so much fun! I sold about $200 in garage sale items and took a truckload to the thrift store that was bigger than today.

Looking back, it was really a ton of work to put on. Sorting and pricing, getting everything outside and laying it out, being out by my busy street corner with my two small children and my friend who helped me and her kids, taking up all my free time in a week to do all of that, and then still donating a truckload of stuff afterward. I probably made $5 an hour on that sale.

Now, if money is tight and an absolute must: go for it and host a garage sale.
But if money would just be nice, hear this: the space you’ll gain today will be nicer. And you can have it by hauling your stuff to the thrift store, today.
Delight To Donate
I could not be happier with how we got rid of that truckload of stuff, today. It brought its own brightness to an already good and productive day.
So, if you are looking at your boxes, or piles, of decluttered items and thinking you have to try to get back the cost by selling it it some way, let me tell you: you will feel so much lightness by just donating it and being done with it.
Someone is going to find your good stuff at the thrift store and it is going to make their day. I think this truckload of stuff will make several people’s days, and that’s better than any money made at a garage sale.
